Oh Sh!t

Published on 4 April, 2013, in Julep, Nail Art, Stripes.

Oh Sh!t Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Phew! What a busy past couple of weeks. I recently got back from a Spring break trip up to San Francisco and Yosemite, and I also started school to get my manicurist license! My nails have taken a beating, so I trimmed them down so they won’t break. Hopefully they’ll get long again soon :)

This most recent Julep maven box is probably my favorite one so far! I used Eden, Mackenzie, and Lena for the zig-zag patterns.

Once that dried, I applied top coat and it was nail charm time!

Hex nail jewelry has been so popular lately and I was so excited to get my hands on some charms. You’ll be seeing others making an appearance in other designs soon, but I wanted this “Oh Shit” charm on my nails, its hilarious! :) As I probably will be removing this design for school tomorrow, I attached the charm just with top coat. If you want it to stay on longer, use nail glue.

Feels so good to have some nail art on my nails again! Hope you all had a lovely past couple of weeks xoxo

Spring Brocade

Published on 23 March, 2013, in Cute, Nail Art, Orly, Pink.

Spring Brocade www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Happy Spring! This past winter I did these brocade nails – they are one of my favorite designs! I thought it would be fun to do an updated version for Spring :) Who says you can’t switch up your favorite Winter time nail looks for Spring?

Tomorrow I am leaving on a week long trip for Spring break all around California…stopping in San Francisco and Yosemite! Being the nail art addict that I am, I thought “what am I going to do for a week without nails?!” I decided to do this design with gel polish so my nails will last the whole week without chipping :) I love doing gel, and since I change my nails so often I don’t get many opportunities to do them!

If you aren’t familiar with how gel polish works, you need a UV lamp. You first apply a gel base coat, and then cure it in the lamp. Once that was ready I applied the gel polish and cured that! I then used regular nail polish to do my designs, applied gel top coat, and ta-da!

The specific colors I used are: Orly Gel FX Mirror Mirror and CND Shellac Gotcha

The metallic things on my nails are “nail foils”…my new obsession :) Super easy to do, if you google it tons of sites and tutorials will come up.

Anyways…I’ll be up and posting next week along with some exciting news to share! I will have access to internet so feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions or want to share your nail art ♥

Kate Spade Goreski Glasses Inspired

Kate Spade Goreski Glasses Inspired www.chelseasgetnailed.com

So if you follow my blog, you probably know by now I have an obsession with Kate Spade and get inspired by their jewelry and purses all the time (like here and here!). I’ve been eyeing these Goreski jewelry pieces for a while now, but unfortunately can’t find them anywhere! They had a ring and it was so cute, but I suppose its all sold out :’(

Anyways…for this design I used:

-China Glaze For Audrey
-OPI Strawberry Margarita
-OPI Need Sunglasses?
-Nubar My New Obsession
-Essie Licorice
-Essie Good as Gold

I needed to use Need Sunglasses? in this design because of the name! :)

Here’s a photo of the jewelry I was inspired by:

SWATCHES – Nail Polish Couture

Published on 19 March, 2013, in Reviews.

Hi all! Sorry for my lack of posts lately…I’m smack dab in the middle of finals week for school. Luckily I found a bit of time this past weekend to swatch these lovely polishes sent to me from Brittany of Nail Polish Couture! They are all gorgeous…but I was super excited to try out a thermal polish she sent to me, I’ve never used one before :) Anyways…

Nail Polish Couture "Galaxy" www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Up first is Galaxy. This polish has small holographic glitters in a black base. Here I used one coat over Essie Licorice! Its so simple but crazy gorgeous. I think it would look amazing over a galaxy nail!

Nail Polish Couture "Sunshine on a Cloudy Day" www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day is a light yellow polish with a bit of shimmer. Here I used 3 coats so it was somewhat sheer, but I didn’t apply it very thick. Love it! I’m not typically a fan of yellow polishes but this is the perfect shade of yellow – not too bright and not too “yellow-y” :)

Nail Polish Couture "Rachel" www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Oh. My. Gosh! Rachel is a duochrome polish that shifts from gold to green to a purple-y/red. Here I have it layered over Essie Licorice. It was so hard to get a good picture of it as there are SO many colors! Depending on the angle your nails are it changes to a different color.

Nail Polish Couture "Michelle" www.chelseasgetnailed.comNail Polish Couture "Michelle" www.chelseasgetnailed.comNail Polish Couture "Michelle" www.chelseasgetnailed.comNail Polish Couture "Michelle" www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Michelle is a thermal polish that shifts from purple to fuchsia. If you click on the individual picture you can view a closer up pic!
Top Left: Right when I applied it, its in its normal state.
Top Right: I used a blow dryer to get the colors to change quickly to photograph, and this was with just a few seconds of heat.
Bottom Left: This is after using the blow dryer to completely turn it pink. The thermal polish shifts to pink when hot!
Bottom Right: After heating it up, this is when it began to cool down and return to its purple color.

Isn’t it awesome?!

Nail Polish Couture "Lavender Delight" www.chelseasgetnailed.com

The last polish I have to show you is Lavender Delight! This is a gorgeous purple shade!

Be sure to check out Nail Polish Couture on her website and instagram!

And that is it! Hopefully I’ll be able to get some nail art in before this weekend :) I love all these colors but I’d have to say either Michelle or Rachel is my favorite! Which one is yours? Let me know in the comments :)

Hip to Be Square

Published on 15 March, 2013, in Geometric, Nail Art, OPI.

Hip To Be Square www.chelseasgetnailed.com

These nails totally remind me of this song. My nails have been naked for the past 4 days…a new record? :)

Hip To Be Square Nails - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

For this design I chose to use colors from the OPI Euro Centrale collection (except for Goldeneye). I painted on a base coat with a pink tint (Julep’s Oxygen Nail Treatment) before painting on the squares. I love this base coat because it makes my nails look extra healthy when I do a design that shows my natural nail.

I used my nail art brush to paint squares onto my nails with My Vampire is Buff, Eurso Euro, You’re Such a Budapest, and Can’t Find My Czechbook. PS: Did you see Ulta now sells OPI polishes online?

Once they dried for a little but I painted on various lines with a Lechat nail art striper polish in white and Goldeneye with my nail art brush. Ta-da!

Birthday

Birthday Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I’m officially 20…what?! It feels crazy to think that I’m no longer a teenager! For today, I wanted to paint something “birthday” themed and this is what I came up with!

I’m a bit lazy today so I don’t have an image with all the polishes I used but here’s a list:

Color Club Beyond and Flamingo
Nubar Restort Yellow, Forbidden Fruit, and Jaded
Essie Licorice and Blanc

Beyond (the bottle I’m holding) is from Color Club’s new “Halo Hues” collection (and my first holo!) It is so gorgeous, I really can’t stop staring at it. Expect to see swatches of this color along with a few other Color Club polishes soon! I have finals next week for school so my posts will be a bit slow these next couple weeks, but I’ll try my best to do nail art and swatches when I have a chance :)

Geometric & Initials

Geometric & Initial Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Yesterday I took a little trip up to L.A. to explore some nail supply stores and I bought SO much stuff…whoops! They had tons of goodies that aren’t available near me so it was definitely worth it. I purchased some nail foils (the design on my middle fingers…if you google it you’ll see videos how to do it and where to buy it) and they are my newest obsession. I’m sure you all will be seeing my other purchases in my next few nail designs! :)

What I Used:
Floss Gloss Con Limon
Essie Where’s My Chauffeur?
Essie Licorice
Essie Blanc

I also used studs (not sure what size they are) along with a nail art brush to paint the designs and my initials (C.K.)

Mara Hoffman Inspired

Mara Hoffman Inspired Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

As many of you know, I’m always getting inspired by something for my nails! I have been wanting to do nails inspired by this Mara Hoffman dress for a while, but kept putting it off. Today was such a lazy day so I decided I needed to do them :) Here’s the dress:

Mara Hoffman Dress

Isn’t it just amazing? I love the colors and the pattern and I thought it would translate really nicely onto my nails.

Mara Hoffman Inspired Nails - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

If you haven’t tried Sally Hansen polishes yet, I suggest its time you do! I love their brushes because they are wider than normal, and it makes it way easier to paint your nails…not to mention the gorgeous colors! They are sold in many stores (Target, Walmart, CVS, Ulta, etc.!) and are a very good price. I chose Barracuda, a bluish-mint shade; Water Color, aqua; and Kook a Mango, a bright orange shade of red for this design…they matched the print perfectly!

I wanted to keep with the “Sally Hansen” polish theme but I didn’t have a yellow, then I remembered I had a yellow nail art pen. I’ve always been hesistant to try the nail art pens but they surprisingly work very well. Its difficult to get it really detailed, but for larger designs it works great. I used a nail art brush for the rest of the colors, and then used Essie Licorice to add in the black details!

Here’s a close up photo:
Mara Hoffman Inspired Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I’m loving this pattern! Took me a couple hours but it was worth it. Now…if only I had the dress to match? :)

SWATCHES – OPI Oz The Great and Powerful Collection

Published on 3 March, 2013, in OPI, Reviews.

Today I have swatches of the OPI Soft Shades collection for 2013- Oz The Great and Powerful! This collection features 3 soft pinks/nudes along with 3 really cool glitter polishes and a new liquid sand color, all inspired by the movie (it comes our March 8th!). PS: If you click on the images you can view them zoomed in!

OPI Don't Burst My Bubble www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Don’t Burst My Bubble is a light pink/white. It was pretty sheer, here I used 3 coats. I think the colors in this collection would be amazing to do a jelly sandwich (layering sheer polishes with glitter). This one would be completely opaque in a 4th coat!

OPI Glints of Glinda www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Glints of Glinda is a sheer tan/nude. This is a gorgeous color, the only downfall is how sheer it is if you’re wanting it to be completely opaque. In his photo I used 3 coats. I love this color…its the perfect nude shade for my skin tone!

OPI I Theodora You www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I Theodora You is a baby pink shade, I used 3 coats. I love this one! On to the glitter polishes…

OPI Lights of Emerald City www.chelseasgetnailed.com       OPI Lights of Emerald City www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Lights of Emerald City is such a fun polish! I love how the glitters are square shaped…its definitely different. It has larger white squares, with smaller iridescent blue/purple ones. When applying this, the glitters tended to go towards the tip of the nail when painting it. Instead of painting the polish on as normal, I dabbed the glitters on so they applied evenly on my nail. Some of the square glitters aren’t perfectly square either (their in the shape of Utah or New Mexico…haha :) ) but you really don’t notice it from far away, I only noticed it when I was taking close up photos. *applied over Don’t Burst My Bubble*

OPI When Monkeys Fly! www.chelseasgetnailed.comOPI When Monkeys Fly! www.chelseasgetnailed.com

When Monkey’s Fly! is a gold and silver glitter with some holographic glitters. I love all the different sized glitters, especially the chunkiness of the gold ones. But, once I applied the polish I noticed the large gold glitters started to curl up (like a taco)…you can see it in the close up photo especially on the glitter on the bottom left. When I applied top coat the nail was pretty smooth so it wasn’t a huge issue. As for application this was 1 coat, and then I patted on some more of the large glitters evenly on the nails. I have a hard time deciding if I like this polish or not, I absolutely love how it looks but the curling of the glitters is strange. *Applied over Glints of Glinda*

OPI Which is Witch www.chelseasgetnailed.comOPI Which is Witch www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Which is Witch is my favorite in this collection! This glitter is so unique. It has holographic smaller glitters along with some tiny bar glitters. This looks SO gorgeous in the sunlight! Here I used 1 coat…could you imagine doing a few coats of this? So sparkly! haha :) *Applied over I Theodora You!*

OPI What Wizardry is This? www.chelseasgetnailed.comOPI What Wizardry is This? www.chelseasgetnailed.com

What Wizardry is This? is one of OPI’s Liquid Sand polishes created for this collection in a beautiful copper/brown/gold shade. This one was very different from the Liquid Sands in the Mariah Carey collection…wasn’t as textured and was shimmery instead of glitter. I thought this dried pretty quickly (about 10 minutes). And removing it was so easy! I think a lot of people expect the Liquid Sand polishes to be very difficult to remove but they aren’t at all…definitely way easier than removing a regular glitter polish. Here I used 2 coats! :)

And that’s it! I think my favorites were Which is Witch and Glints of Glinda…which one’s do you like? Dislike?

Coral Floral

Coral Floral www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Today definitely got me in the mood for Spring (it was in the 80s here in Long Beach!!). I absolutely love florals, so when I saw the inspiration for today’s post on Pinterest I knew it had to go on my nails :)

Here’s my inspiration:

Coral Floral - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I received the My Sweet Escape collection from Nubar and the colors worked perfectly for this print! I haven’t used Nubar polishes too much before, mainly because its not sold in stores near me. But these colors are so gorgeous! They are definitely worth ordering online for :)  I’ve always loved their nail art pens so I was excited to try more polishes. Swatches of this collection coming soon!
