Geometric & Initials

Geometric & Initial Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Yesterday I took a little trip up to L.A. to explore some nail supply stores and I bought SO much stuff…whoops! They had tons of goodies that aren’t available near me so it was definitely worth it. I purchased some nail foils (the design on my middle fingers…if you google it you’ll see videos how to do it and where to buy it) and they are my newest obsession. I’m sure you all will be seeing my other purchases in my next few nail designs! :)

What I Used:
Floss Gloss Con Limon
Essie Where’s My Chauffeur?
Essie Licorice
Essie Blanc

I also used studs (not sure what size they are) along with a nail art brush to paint the designs and my initials (C.K.)

Mara Hoffman Inspired

Mara Hoffman Inspired Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

As many of you know, I’m always getting inspired by something for my nails! I have been wanting to do nails inspired by this Mara Hoffman dress for a while, but kept putting it off. Today was such a lazy day so I decided I needed to do them :) Here’s the dress:

Mara Hoffman Dress

Isn’t it just amazing? I love the colors and the pattern and I thought it would translate really nicely onto my nails.

Mara Hoffman Inspired Nails - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

If you haven’t tried Sally Hansen polishes yet, I suggest its time you do! I love their brushes because they are wider than normal, and it makes it way easier to paint your nails…not to mention the gorgeous colors! They are sold in many stores (Target, Walmart, CVS, Ulta, etc.!) and are a very good price. I chose Barracuda, a bluish-mint shade; Water Color, aqua; and Kook a Mango, a bright orange shade of red for this design…they matched the print perfectly!

I wanted to keep with the “Sally Hansen” polish theme but I didn’t have a yellow, then I remembered I had a yellow nail art pen. I’ve always been hesistant to try the nail art pens but they surprisingly work very well. Its difficult to get it really detailed, but for larger designs it works great. I used a nail art brush for the rest of the colors, and then used Essie Licorice to add in the black details!

Here’s a close up photo:

I’m loving this pattern! Took me a couple hours but it was worth it. Now…if only I had the dress to match? :)

SWATCHES – OPI Oz The Great and Powerful Collection

Published on 3 March, 2013, in OPI, Reviews.

Today I have swatches of the OPI Soft Shades collection for 2013- Oz The Great and Powerful! This collection features 3 soft pinks/nudes along with 3 really cool glitter polishes and a new liquid sand color, all inspired by the movie (it comes our March 8th!). PS: If you click on the images you can view them zoomed in!

OPI Don't Burst My Bubble www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Don’t Burst My Bubble is a light pink/white. It was pretty sheer, here I used 3 coats. I think the colors in this collection would be amazing to do a jelly sandwich (layering sheer polishes with glitter). This one would be completely opaque in a 4th coat!

OPI Glints of Glinda www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Glints of Glinda is a sheer tan/nude. This is a gorgeous color, the only downfall is how sheer it is if you’re wanting it to be completely opaque. In his photo I used 3 coats. I love this color…its the perfect nude shade for my skin tone!

OPI I Theodora You www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I Theodora You is a baby pink shade, I used 3 coats. I love this one! On to the glitter polishes…

OPI Lights of Emerald City www.chelseasgetnailed.com       OPI Lights of Emerald City www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Lights of Emerald City is such a fun polish! I love how the glitters are square shaped…its definitely different. It has larger white squares, with smaller iridescent blue/purple ones. When applying this, the glitters tended to go towards the tip of the nail when painting it. Instead of painting the polish on as normal, I dabbed the glitters on so they applied evenly on my nail. Some of the square glitters aren’t perfectly square either (their in the shape of Utah or New Mexico…haha :) ) but you really don’t notice it from far away, I only noticed it when I was taking close up photos. *applied over Don’t Burst My Bubble*

OPI When Monkeys Fly! www.chelseasgetnailed.comOPI When Monkeys Fly! www.chelseasgetnailed.com

When Monkey’s Fly! is a gold and silver glitter with some holographic glitters. I love all the different sized glitters, especially the chunkiness of the gold ones. But, once I applied the polish I noticed the large gold glitters started to curl up (like a taco)…you can see it in the close up photo especially on the glitter on the bottom left. When I applied top coat the nail was pretty smooth so it wasn’t a huge issue. As for application this was 1 coat, and then I patted on some more of the large glitters evenly on the nails. I have a hard time deciding if I like this polish or not, I absolutely love how it looks but the curling of the glitters is strange. *Applied over Glints of Glinda*

OPI Which is Witch www.chelseasgetnailed.comOPI Which is Witch www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Which is Witch is my favorite in this collection! This glitter is so unique. It has holographic smaller glitters along with some tiny bar glitters. This looks SO gorgeous in the sunlight! Here I used 1 coat…could you imagine doing a few coats of this? So sparkly! haha :) *Applied over I Theodora You!*

OPI What Wizardry is This? www.chelseasgetnailed.comOPI What Wizardry is This? www.chelseasgetnailed.com

What Wizardry is This? is one of OPI’s Liquid Sand polishes created for this collection in a beautiful copper/brown/gold shade. This one was very different from the Liquid Sands in the Mariah Carey collection…wasn’t as textured and was shimmery instead of glitter. I thought this dried pretty quickly (about 10 minutes). And removing it was so easy! I think a lot of people expect the Liquid Sand polishes to be very difficult to remove but they aren’t at all…definitely way easier than removing a regular glitter polish. Here I used 2 coats! :)

And that’s it! I think my favorites were Which is Witch and Glints of Glinda…which one’s do you like? Dislike?

Coral Floral

Coral Floral www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Today definitely got me in the mood for Spring (it was in the 80s here in Long Beach!!). I absolutely love florals, so when I saw the inspiration for today’s post on Pinterest I knew it had to go on my nails :)

Coral Floral - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I received the My Sweet Escape collection from Nubar and the colors worked perfectly for this print! I haven’t used Nubar polishes too much before, mainly because its not sold in stores near me. But these colors are so gorgeous! They are definitely worth ordering online for :)  I’ve always loved their nail art pens so I was excited to try more polishes. Swatches of this collection coming soon!

Butterflies

Published on 26 February, 2013, in Cute, Julep, Nail Art.

Butterflies www.chelseasgetnailed.com

I am ready for Spring! I’m so over this cold weather…it may sound crazy but I’m ready to work on some Spring designs. I never have done butterfly nails like this before so I was feeling really inspired! My Watercolor Spotted nails that I did the other day kind of reminded me of butterfly wings, so I added them as some accent nails.

Butterfly Nails - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

On all of my nails, I first painted Essie Blanc as my base color. This is one of my favorite white polishes! It definitely is difficult finding a good white polish that doesn’t streak, and this one is the best one I have found. 2 coats and it’s perfect!

Using the technique shown in this tutorial, I did the watercolor design on all my fingers (except my ring finger), and then added the spotted design (also shown in the tutorial) on my two fingers.  For the watercolor, I used Rose, Gloria, Charlotte, and Blake. To hand paint the butterflies, I used these brushes along with Essie Licorice.

Are your nails ready for Spring? Mine are! I’m definitely over the dark colors of winter…bring on the brights and pastels :)

SWATCHES – Polish Me To Go

Tonight on the blog I have swatches of some of Polish Me To Go‘s glow in the dark polishes! These are all matte, but with some top coat they are just like regular polishes! Let me tell you…I had the hardest time taking photos of them in the dark. So please excuse the poor quality photos and just use them as a guide to see how they look in the dark! The pictures just don’t do the glow in the dark justice…truly amazing! I was really impressed by how bright these polishes glowed. I’d be curious to see how they glow under a black light.

So much fun, definitely going to be wearing these out one night :)

Polish Me To Go Sunny Days www.chelseasgetnailed.comSunny Days

Sunny Days is a neon yellow. In the instructions it said to apply “White Undie“, a white base coat, before applying this color. It was so bright…and difficult to capture the neon on camera. For each of these polishes I “charged” my nails under a lamp for about a minute and they glowed really well. This polish glowed to a yellow/green.

Polish Me To Go Pretty Girls www.chelseasgetnailed.comPretty Girls

Pretty Girls is a neon pink. Love this one! I also applied White Undie under this to make it even brighter. In the dark, it glowed to an orange.

Polish Me To Go Pinky Promise www.chelseagetnailed.comPinky Promise

Pinky Promise was one of my favorite polishes from Polish Me To Go! I absolutely love this shade of pink. Unfortunately I just couldn’t get it to glow nicely! It appears as if the “glow” sunk to the bottom.

Polish Me To Go Yell, Oh Mint! www.chelseasgetnailed.comYell, Oh Mint!

Yell, Oh Mint! glowed the brightest for me! It first is a minty green polish and then turns to a yellow/green in the dark.

Polish Me To Go Snow Glow www.chelseasgetnailed.comSnow Glow

Snow Glow applies as a white polish, and then glows a super pretty light blue in the dark! This was my favorite glow color :) This one was a bit sheer so it took 3 coats to apply.

Polish Me To Go Honey My Dew! www.chelseasgetnailed.comHoney My Dew

As you can see, I had a difficult time photographing Honey My Dew! in the dark. Its a gorgeous peach shade, and then glows to a yellow-ish color. This one glowed really well but for some reason it wasn’t photographing right!

Polish Me To Go Oh Cool Blue www.chelseasgetnailed.comOh Cool Blue

Oh Cool Blue applies as a very light blue, and glows to a bright blue (similar to Snow Glow) :)

Polish Me To Go Like Grapes? www.chelseasgetnailed.comLike Grapes?

Like Grapes? is a gorgeous purple! When it glows, its an indigo/deep blue color. Love it! :)

Be sure to check out Polish Me To Go’s website to see more polishes, and also follow her on twitter and instagram!

TUTORIAL – Watercolor Spotted Nails

Watercolor Spotted Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Today I was bored and was experimenting with some nail designs! I stumbled upon this design and had to make a tutorial for you guys :)  The water spotted trend has been pretty popular lately, but all the videos I’ve seen showed hand sanitizer spray (who has that?!…well at least I don’t). I experimented with some products I had lying around the house and realized that anything with alcohol in it would work for this technique! I used body spray (from Bath and Body Works) and perfume…both worked! Hairspray works as well :)

What’s great about the “spotted” technique is that it is super simple, and you can use products lying around the house. This look is very versatile, so you can easily switch out the colors to make it your own.

I’ve done watercolor nails in the past, and thought some bright colors would look perfect under this spotted design. In the tutorial I show how I do the watercolor technique as well! Although it appears complicated, it is super easy.

Polishes I Used:
Essie Blanc
Essie Go Overboard
Essie Play Date
Essie Where’s My Chauffeur?
Floss Gloss Con Limon
Essie Licorice

Anyways…onto the video! I hope you enjoy it and if you try it out I would love to see.

Psychedelic Nails

Psychedelic Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Yesterday I got my order from Floss Gloss in the mail…and holy @#%$! I immediately had to do my nails :) The colors are so bright and vibrant and I wanted to do something “psychedelic”.

Psychedelic Nails - What I Used www.chelseasgetnailed.com

To do this design I just hand painted on the swirls with a nail art brush. Unfortunately there aren’t any easy ways to do this, you just need a steady hand and some practice :)

After painting the swirls with Con Limon, Bikini Coral, and Perf I added in some accents with Stun. How amazing are these colors?! Con Limon is a bright lime green, reminds me of a highlighter. I was shocked at how bright it was on my nails! Typically with neon colors you need to paint a white base under for it to be bright…NOPE! These colors were bright on their own…definitely a huge plus.

So excited about these polishes! Not only are these colors crazy gorgeous but the bottles look really cool. Be sure to check out Floss Gloss here.

SWATCHES – China Glaze Glitz Bitz n’ Pieces

Hi guys! Today I have swatches of China Glaze’s Glitz Bitz n’ Pieces collection. There are 6 different polishes with different sized glitters, and each one is a different color. I’ve been lusting after some polishes with bar glitters, so I was super excited about these! I painted the glitter on top of colors from China Glaze’s Avant Garden collection. And as for the application, they were all great! I painted one coat on each of my nails, and then moved the glitter around with my brush so that all the different shapes and sizes were spread out :) China Glaze Bling it On www.chelseasgetnailed.com China Glaze Bling it On www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Up first is Bling it On. This one has black and purple glitters of all different sizes. To me, this color appears more as an indigo! Each polish in this collection is essentially the same formula, just different colors. For the base color, I used Fancy Pants.

China Glaze Glitz N Pieces www.chelseasgetnailed.com China Glaze Glitz N Pieces www.chelseasgetnailed.com

If you had to purchase only one polish from this collection, Glitz N Pieces should be it! This one is black and silver glitter so its really versatile and would look good over any color! Here I used Tart-y for the Party under it.

China Glaze Scattered & Tattered www.chelseasgetnailed.com China Glaze Scattered & Tattered www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Scattered & Tattered is a black and red glitter. In the bottle it looks really red, but on my nails it washed out to a more pink shade…possibly because of the red color I used under it (Passion for Petals).

China Glaze Graffiti Glitter www.chelseasgetnailed.com China Glaze Graffiti Glitter www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Graffiti Glitter is an emerald green and black glitter. Since emerald is Pantone’s color of the year it’s very fitting! I’m definitely going to save this one for St. Patrick’s Day as well :) Base color: Dandy Lyin’ Around

China Glaze Mosaic Madness www.chelseasgetnailed.com China Glaze Mosaic Madness www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Mosaic Madness is a deep blue glitter. In the photo its a bit more washed out than how it looks in the bottle. Love this one…the color combo is great! I used Sunday Funday for the base color.

China Glaze Razzle Me, Dazzle Me www.chelseasgetnailed.com China Glaze Razzle Me, Dazzle Me www.chelseasgetnailed.com

And the last one, Razzle Me, Dazzle Me. This polish is a light pink and black glitter. The pink in this leans more towards a rose gold color, gorgeous! Base color is Life is Rosy.

Typically I’m not too much of a glitter person but I was surprised by this one! The shapes of the glitter is definitely different than any other polish collection I’ve seen out there. It wasn’t too difficult to take off, but the glitter was everywhere afterwards :)

My favorites: Glitz N Pieces and Mosaic Madness, although all of them are so pretty! I’m very happy to add this to my collection :)

Which one/s are your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

Cut Out Nails

Cut Out Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

Last June was the first time I did Cut Out Nails (or negative space nails). I was looking through some old nail pictures when I found them, and decided I needed to do an updated version! They are so much fun to do, and if they look a bit intimidating don’t worry…I have a tutorial! You can view it here.

Cut Out Nails www.chelseasgetnailed.com

To prepare your nails for this cut out design, you really want to make sure your nails underneath look healthy! Be sure to buff out any yellow, or even use a nude polish to give the illusion of your natural nail. For this mani, I used Julep’s new Oxygen Nail Treatment base coat that has a pinky nude tint, which helped my nails look really healthy!

Although these nails are a bit different than the tutorial I made last year, I did it a very similar way. I painted Essie Play Date and Where’s My Chauffeur on the portions of my nail, and used my nail art brush to create a straight line. To outline the cut outs, I used Essie Licorice and my nail art brush and carefully painted the lines.

As for my middle finger, I created the outline of the triangles with the black polish, and then filled in some triangles with the purple or turquoise colors. To make the black outline look really sharp, I went over it again after filling in the triangles.

Give your design a few minutes to dry, and then finish it with your favorite top coat!

Here’s a closeup:
