SWATCHES – China Glaze Avant Garden Part 2

The other day I posted the Blooming Brights portion of the China Glaze Avant Garden collection, and today I have the Pastel Petals! These colors are so pretty. It seems like tons of polish companies came out with pastel shades for Spring, but China Glaze has come up with some really unique ones!

Life is Rosy is a gorgeous dusty rose pink shade. These polish is a creme (no shimmer) and applied perfectly in 2 coats!

Pink-ie Promise is a light pink with a bit of shimmer. Love this one!

Tart-y for the Party is one of my FAVORITES. And the name is just hilarious! :) Lavender shades seem to be really popular for this Spring, but I love this one because its not too pastel. This one is a creme and again, applies great with 2 coats.

Fade into Hue is a light periwinkle creme. So gorgeous!

Ooh! Keep Calm, Paint On is a mint shade with a bit of shimmer. Kind of reminds of of mint chocolate chip ice cream? Haha :) Yet again, I love this one.

And last we have Dandy Lyin’ Around! This one is a white polish with a bit of shimmer. This one was thinner than the others, shown here is 3 coats. It definitely is a fun new take on your basic white polish!

Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

Kate Spade “Mondrian Bon Shopper” Inspired Nails

After a long day I decided to end my weekend with some online “shopping” (ok more like online looking) and was perusing through katespade.com. I’ve been eyeing some jewelry but ended up looking at bags. I came across this one and BOOM! instant nail inspiration! I’ve done some Mondrian nails in the past, but I loved this take on it.

I wish there was an easier way to to these nails! There really are no tricks to it, just a steady hand to paint squares and stripes. I’m sure you could do this with striping tape, but I could never figure that out :) I first painted the squares with Essie Blanc, NCLA Santa Monica Shore Thing, Julep Carrie, and Essie Butler Please. Once the white squares were dry, I used Nubar Palisade to paint the tiny stripes. This part was definitely the hardest! If I messed up painting the grey stripes, I went back with white to fix any crooked lines.

I then used Essie Licorice to paint in stripes between each of the squares!

Here’s a closeup of my nail inspiration:

And there you have it! Unfortunately I probably can’t afford this bag, so its much cheaper to paint it on my nails instead ;)

Have a wonderful week xoxo

SWATCHES – China Glaze Avant Garden Part 1

Today I have swatches of half of the new China Glaze Avant Garden collection! In total there are 12 colors (which would make for a lengthy post) so I’m splitting them up. These are from the “Blooming Brights” portion of the collection – 6 bright colors for Spring!

Mimosa’s Before Mani’s is a pinky coral with a hint of shimmer. Perfect in 2 coats!

Sunday Funday is a gorgeous bright blue. One of my favorites from this collection! I must say…the formula on all these polishes is great. I could have gotten away with using 1 coat but did 2 just in case :)

This swatch is Snap My Dragon! It’s a red (with a hint of hot pink) with subtle shimmer.

Budding Romance…hmm. Not really sure how I feel about this one! It’s definitely different and probably not a polish I would use that often. This color is more something that I would use for nail art versus plain polishing.

Fancy Pants (oh China Glaze how I love the names for some of these!) is a blurple (blue/purple) with pink shimmer. It’s difficult to see the shimmer in the photo, but it’s really subtle. So pretty!

Passion for Petals is another pink/red shade. This one is similar to Snap My Dragon but this one is a creme with no shimmer.

Stay tuned for the rest of the Avant Garden collection (the pastel shades!) What do you think of them so far?

SWATCHES – Camille’s Nail Colour

Published on 13 February, 2013, in Reviews.

Hi all! Today on the blog I’ve got swatches of Camille’s Nail Colour. I love finding new brands and trying them out – and I absolutely love these polishes! Be sure to check out their website as they have tons of other color options. And how cute is the little box they come in? Definitely going to be using it for some nail-spiration :)

Up first is Luxe – a light sky blue! This is the perfect addition to my little nail polish collection and it’ll be lovely for some Spring designs. This was completely opaque in 2 coats! :)

This color is Posh Plum - a gorgeous plum purple. This one is different from any other purple shade that I have (and I have a lot of purples!)

Very SoHo is a pinky nude shade. Lately I’ve been obsessed with nude polishes as my nails are finally getting healthy! Here I used 3 coats to show how it looks a bit more opaque, but it would look great with just 1 coat…so it’s sheer but still gives your nails a natural tint!

Sexy Denim is a dark blue polish. It almost looks as if there’s a bit of purple (indigo?). Love love love this one!

And last, Victorian Grey! This polish is a medium-grey polish. Not too dark and not too light…which I love!

These were so much fun to swatch! I can’t wait to do some nail art with these. Keep an eye out for a Camille’s Nail Colour tutorial for a super cute Spring design that I’ll be posting next week :)

Be sure to check out Camille’s Closet on their website, Facebook, and Twitter.

Prabal Gurung for Target

To say that my shopping trip at Target this morning was inspirational is an understatement. The new Prabal Gurung for Target line made me instantly want to do my shopping, get home, and get painting ASAP. The colors, the patterns, the choices, oh my! I couldn’t get enough. I went with one goal in mind…to get that gorgeous floral print dress. But, as I suspected, it was all sold out in my size. You better believe that my hunt will continue…wish me luck :) But for now I’ll have to live with the print on my nails!

Normally I’ll list off the colors I used, but I used way too many. For the pattern on my pointer and pinky fingers, I used my antique nail tutorial. The rest I just hand painted with these nail art brushes.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend! What do you think of this awesome collection?

Polka Party

I’ve been in a “polka dot” frame of mind lately and since my nails are behaving and not breaking I went for a more nude look. Sally Hansen so graciously sent me some colors to play with so I went crazy! The nude look is very on trend and I thought I would switch it up by doing polka dots. Other than patience this is super easy! Definitely a recommendation for the beginner nail artist.

To start off this design, I used a sheer nude polish – Arm Candy. I did three coats of this and it’s still pretty sheer…which is perfect if you just want to enhance how your nails look naturally! I then used Good to Grape, Barracuda, Peach of Cake, and Rosy Outlook for all the dots!

For this particular design I used the smallest dotting tool in a set (like this one) but you really can use anything! Toothpicks would be a great substitute to do these small dots, or even a sharp pencil. There’s tons of options for polka dots so you don’t need dotting tools.

Here is a close up to see how I did the dots:

SWATCHES – NCLA “Life’s A Beach” Collection

Published on 5 February, 2013, in NCLA, Reviews.

Today I have swatches of NCLA‘s newest collection for spring – “Life’s A Beach”! This collection has 4 pastel shades that are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to do some spring-inspired nail art with these :) Anyways…on to the swatches!

AM: Beauty Sleep, PM: Shopping Spree is a light minty green, here I did 3 coats. I have an obsession with mint polishes so this one’s definitely a new favorite!

Tennis Anyone? is a pastel yellow with a bit of lime green…it definitely reminds me of a tennis ball. I love love love this shade, its so different!

Don’t Call Me Peachy! is a peach pastel…perfect for Spring/Summer!

As If! is a beautiful pastel periwinkle/lavender!

I’m in love with this collection, it’s hard to choose a favorite but Tennis Anyone? is so pretty! I’m so excited to be seeing pastel and lighter colored polishes coming out after seeing so many dark colors this Fall/Winter.

Are you ready for Spring? What are some fun Spring designs you’re looking forward to doing?

Geometric Mosaic

TGIF! Happy Friday! So relieved that its the weekend, I definitely need a break after this exhausting week at school :) For me, doing my nails has seriously become a “relaxation technique” I guess you could say. After a long day, instead of plopping on the couch and watching TV, I really love to do my nails. Its a wonderful way to relax! :)

The other day I was testing out this idea but didn’t have time to do a complete mani. I really liked the mosaic background with geometric lines and shapes over it. Anyways…here’s what I used:

These 3 colors are from OPI’s Spring/Summer 2013 Euro Centrale Collection (I did swatches yesterday). I thought that these three colors looked perfect together!

To do the mosaic look in the background, I first painted my nails with a base coat (OPI Nail Envy is my latest favorite). I then used the brushes straight out of the polish bottle and painted the “mosaics”. On my right hand, I painted lines in different directions with the colors. On my left hand I did something similar except I painted different sized dots. After I let the background for my design dry I got this black nail art striper and painted the designs over it! Ta-da!

Here’s another photo:

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
